CFA Society Sydney invites you to save the date and register early to celebrate International Women’s Day, and hear from three top leaders in finance - Deanne Stewart, CEO at First State Super, Sally Loane, CEO at Financial Services Council and Rebecca Fender, CFA Head of Future of Finance at CFA Institute, moderated by Marian Poirier, CFA.
The discussion will honour the International Women’s Day theme of #BalanceforBetter to create a more balanced and inclusive workplace as the future of finance.

Rebecca Fender, CFA - Head of Future of Finance at CFA Institute 

Rebecca Fender, CFA, is head of the Future of Finance initiative at CFA Institute, a long-term global effort to shape a trustworthy, forward-thinking investment profession that better serves society. Prior to joining CFA Institute, Ms. Fender was a vice president at BlackRock working with pension funds and endowments, and she also worked at Cambridge Associates, where she published research about manager selection.
She earned her undergraduate degree in economics from Princeton University and holds an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. Future of Finance publications include From Trust to Loyalty: A Global Survey of What Investors Want, and Gender Diversity in Investment Management: New Research for Practitioners to Close the Gender Gap. Previously, Ms. Fender also served as the director of the flagship CFA Institute Annual Conference.

Sally Loane - CEO, Financial Services Council

Sally Loane joined the Financial Services Council as Chief Executive Officer in December 2014. 
Prior to this she worked in the corporate sector as Director of Media and Public Affairs at Coca-Cola Amatil from 2006-2014.

She also spent 25 years in the media industry, working as a journalist for Australia’s major print, radio and television media organisations. Sally spent several years in the press gallery at Parliament House, Canberra as a journalist. She spent over five years as a broadcaster for ABC radio in Sydney where she hosted the Morning program on 702 ABC Sydney.

Sally is Deputy Chair of the Committee for Sydney, Director of Waratahs Rugby, Director of Avner Pancreatic Cancer Foundation, Governor of the Cerebral Palsy Research Foundation and a member of Chief Executive Women.

Deanne Stewart - CEO, First State Super

Deanne has with more than 20 years’ leadership experience in financial services in superannuation and insurance sectors in Australia and internationally. This includes time as Managing Director with Merrill Lynch Investment management in New York, and as an Engagement Manager with McKinsey and Company in London.   

Prior to joining First State Super, Deanne was Chief Executive Officer of MetLife Australia, where she led her team to deliver faster, easier and a more caring insurance experience for customers and partners. Her time with MetLife was preceded by senior roles within BT Financial Group including as General Manager for Superannuation, Marketing and Direct Channels.

A hallmark of Deanne’s career has been a passionate commitment to building and maintaining a strong organisational culture to drive business success. 

Marian Poirier, CFA Senior Managing Director, Head of Australia and New Zealand, MFS Investment Management

Marian Poirier, CFA, is a senior managing director at MFS Investment Management® (MFS®). She joined MFS in 2012. In her role, she is responsible for managing the distribution team in Australia, as well as for institutional sales in the region.

For the previous ten years, Marian worked for BNP Paribas Investment Partners Australia, where she was co-head of institutional business for Australia and New Zealand. Prior to that, she spent four years with BNP Paribas Asset Management in Paris working in the quantitative equity team as an emerging market portfolio manager. She also served in client service and business development for asset management with Paribas Group Australia for four years.

Marian earned degrees in business and French from Queen’s University Belfast and a Master of Finance degree from the University of Technology, Sydney. She was a board member of the New South Wales branch of Women in Super for ten years, concluding in 2015. She is a Chartered Financial Analyst® and a member of the CFA Society Sydney, where she currently sits on the board.
