Virtual Session: Video On Demand

Overview

CFA Institute Alpha Summit APAC, a two-day virtual conference focusing on the investment industry’s biggest challenges and most compelling trends across Asia Pacific, was held on 10-11 February 2022. From shareholder activism and advances in fintech to sustainable investment strategy and capital allocation, the nine thematic sessions of the conference aimed to give the audience the tools and guidance on best practices that financial professionals need to succeed.

The expanding role of artificial intelligence (AI), big data, and machine learning has already begun to change the investment industry, but it’s also transforming the very nature of investment work itself. Increasingly, investment professionals will have to deal with investment processes that are shaped and driven by new technologies. How can firms build more effective teams that integrate human intelligence with artificial intelligence? And how will individual professionals need to adapt in order to succeed?

In the last session of the conference, “Investment Management Professional of the Future,” speakers stressed the ability of AI to extract insight from non-structured, textual data. AI is not going to replace human decision making but it can support decision makers with depth and breadth of analysis of newly available, vast data sets. Utilizing such new technologies in business requires new organizational structures and a new culture, which enables iterative development, quick feedback, and the ability to fail, learn from the failure, and pivot in a new direction. An adaptive mindset, openness to change, and willingness to learn are the top qualities that will drive successful careers in finance.
